Winter Team Wear: Branded Hoodies, Puffers and Polos Your Staff Will Actually Wear
There are two kinds of branded workwear. The kind staff wear because they have to — and quietly change out of at 5:01pm. And the kind they wear to the supermarket on a Saturday because it's honestly just a good hoodie.
The second kind is a marketing asset that walks around Melbourne all winter. The difference between the two isn't budget — it's choosing garments people would buy anyway.
Why winter is the branded-apparel power season
A branded tee is visible for a few hours in warm weather. A branded hoodie or puffer is the outer layer — visible on the commute, at the café, on site, in every client meeting from May to September. If you're only going to invest in one round of team apparel, make it the winter round.
Build the kit around how your team actually works
Client-facing teams → embroidered polos under a crew or zip crew. Our Todd Polo (220gsm Australian combed cotton) with an embroidered logo reads polished without being stiff, and the Zoe/Luca Zip Crews layer over it cleanly.
Studios, agencies, retail and hospitality → hoodies and crews. The relaxed-fit 320gsm styles (Hawke, Cameron for men, Nola, Chloe for women) are the everyday workhorses; the 400gsm oversized cuts (Ella, Lennox) are the ones staff fight over.
Outdoor, site and delivery teams → puffers and vests. The Nora and Nick Puffer Vests and Tori/Lachlan Puffer Jackets are water- and wind-resistant with 80/20 down fill — proper Melbourne-winter armour, with your logo embroidered on the chest.
The mixed reality of most teams → all of the above. This is where per-style minimums usually wreck the plan — and where our mix-and-match model doesn't. Order one puffer for the BD lead who's always on the road, six hoodies for the studio, five polos for front-of-house: 12 pieces total is the only minimum.
The detail that makes staff actually wear it: fit choice
Uniform programs fail at the fit stage. One boxy unisex cut flatters nobody, so nobody wears it. Our winter range runs separate women's and men's cuts — classic, relaxed, cropped and oversized fits, with size spans up to 5XL on many styles — so a team of different bodies can wear the same brand without wearing the same shape. Let each person pick their cut and size; adoption goes from grudging to enthusiastic overnight.
What a winter kit costs
With one embroidered placement, at the 12–24 piece tier (ex-GST): polos from about $42, hoodies and crews around $59–71, puffer vests from about $143, and puffer jackets from about $167. Printed versions run $10–15 less per garment, and everything steps down at 25+ and 50+ total pieces.
A realistic mid-size example — 15 staff, one embroidered hoodie each (Quincy or Grace Classic Hood at $70.64): about $1,060 ex-GST for a kit that does daily brand duty for two or three winters. Cost-per-wear, it beats almost any ad you'll buy this year.
Quality notes for the sceptics
All our apparel is built on AS Colour blanks — pre-shrunk, side-seamed, heavyweight fleece in the 320–400gsm range — and embroidery physically can't fade or peel. You approve a digital mockup before we produce anything, and samples are available on request if you want to feel the fabric weight before committing the whole team.
The timing bit
Most products run 2–6 weeks from artwork approval. Order in the next few weeks and your team is kitted for the back half of winter — or plan ahead and have summer polos land in November. Returning customers get priority handling and no setup fees, which makes the seasonal rhythm easy.
Send your headcount and logo to hello@madebyspool.com.au and we'll shortlist a kit that fits your team and budget — mockups included.
